Protect the Mills County portion of Loess Hills! Say NO to another cell tower!

Protect the Mills County portion of Loess Hills! Say NO to another cell tower!
Why this petition matters

We have learned that ATT has found a local landowner to permit them to build a 300ft cell phone tower right on Pease Rd, which is the Waubonsie Loop Scenic Byway view. Our section of the Loess Hills is called the Bur Oak Ridge and it’s 1 of 17 of the most important bluffs in ALL of the Loess Hills!
April 2021 the zoning board in Mills County unanimously voted AGAINST this same proposed site and thus protected the Loess Hills Conservation Area.
This has been brought back to the zoning committee to be voted on:
June 21, 2022 at 6:30pm
MILLS COUNTY - Building & Zoning Department
403 Railroad Ave. Glenwood, IA 51534
Proposed site is in the Loess Hills Conservation Development Zoning District legally described as SW ¼, SE ¼ Parcel No. 131320000000000 Sec/Twp/Rng 26-71-43.
Why do we want to STOP this cell tower from being built in this location?
- To preserve the Mills County portion of the Loess Hills as it is one of the most unique landscapes in all of Iowa.
- Cell towers create visual blight
The visual impact of this cell tower will drastically alter the defining aesthetic characteristic of the Loess Hills Scenic Byway and general area. The visual element of this part of the Loess Hills and the scenic byway will be forever altered by a 300+foot cell tower. - Protect property values
Cell towers significantly reduce property value! Research, professional experience and common sense make it clear that the proposed cell tower will have an extraordinary financial impact on residents. 94% of home buyers and renters are less interested and would pay less for a property located near a cell tower or antenna. They feel this way because of the visual blight, and also concerns about health impacts. 79% said that under no circumstances would they ever purchase or rent a property within a few blocks of a cell tower or antennas. This impact on property values will affect not only the homes near to the tower, but will affect properties throughout the surrounding neighborhoods.
We urge everyone to speak up against the Conditional Use Permit for a new cell tower on Pease Rd by signing this petition that will allow us all to retain the safety, beauty, ambiance, enjoyment and value of the Mills County portion of the Loess Hills.
