Lutherans Against Secular Humanism started this petition to Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and

As Members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, we confess that all men are corrupt and sinful in our original nature and by our thoughts, words and deeds, and we are fully redeemed through the bitter suffering and death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We stand with Synod President Dr. Rev. Matthew Harrison in condemning racism and that it has no place in the LCMS by saying, “Discriminatory treatment of human beings on the basis of race is irrational evil and results in evil.”

But our Lutheran faith is under attack.

Our brothers and sisters at Lutherans for Racial Justice (LFRJ) and the Cadet Collective (formerly CLHS Alum for Social Justice) are taking advantage of concerns about race to supplant Christian teaching with popular neoMarxist critical race ideology in our schools and churches.

Critical race theory teaches that systemic racism is an original sin endemic among white people, even if they are unaware of being racist. Accordingly,  LFRJ is circulationg a petition calling upon upon the LCMS to:

“CONFESS that our thoughts, words, and deeds have created, deepened, and sustained the lasting wounds of racial prejudice, inequality, and injustice.”

The LFRJ's assertion that people are inherently racist because of the color of their skin is incompatible with our Christian faith, which teaches that we are one body in Christ:

“This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus,” (Romans 3:22-25).

In their petition, LFRJ also unsubstantiated charges of racism in LCMS. For example, they call on synod petitioners to dismantle “systems of racism within our congregations, communities, and church body,” without specifying their alleged systems.

Equally concerning, LFRJ is supporting a petition against Concordia Lutheran High School Fort Wayne, which demands that neoMarxist critical race ideology be part of teacher training and the school curriculum.

In that petition, the Cadet Collective made a mockery of fairness by first charging that, “Racial discrimination at Concordia has been an ongoing and pervasive problem,” and then soliciting testimony about racism on Instagram.

In response to the attack on our synod by those promoting radical race ideology, we humbly ask that:

  • Synod President Dr. Rev. Matthew Harrison and our district presidents issue statements affirming that the neoMarxist critical race ideology being promoted by Lutherans for Racial Justice is incompatible with Christian doctrine, and that no one should be judged because of his or her race.
  • Members of Lutherans for Racial Justice and the Cadet Collective repent of having made unsubstantiated charges of racism against the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and Concordia Lutheran High School, and renounce neoMarxist critical race ideology.
  • The LCMS explore how our churches and schools can promote natural marriage and Christian education to address racial discrepancies in fatherlessness, crime and violence, and to benefit all people, regardless of race.

We appreciate that race is a sensitive issue, but we need to speak openly and firmly to protect the doctrine of our churches and school from radical ideology.
