RUSM Students started this petition to Office of the Dean Dr. Heidi Chumley and

Ross University (RUSM) is a for-profit Caribbean medical school in Barbados. Students come from all over the U.S. and Canada, as well as other countries, such as India.

Even with this current surge in Omicron cases, RUSM leadership is refusing to listen to students and forcing them to return to campus for in-person learning (Spring ‘22). This past semester, most students remained in their dorm rooms and watched the lectures online. Students have also raised concerns of feeling like prisoners on campus, which led to psychological breakdowns for many. In addition to this, having students travel from all over the world to campus during this time would place both the people of Barbados and RUSM students/faculty at risk of spreading Omicron rather than containing it. The school is properly equipped to provide virtual learning during these difficult times, but have been giving students excuses that possible issues with future accreditation with CAAM-HP was the reason for the mandatory in-person attendance. But CAAM-HP has officially announced on their website that this was completely false and that they will be investigating this claim further.

The goal of this petition is to get the attention of the leadership at Ross University and Adtalem, so that they can no longer ignore the concerns of students & their loved ones and give all Medical Sciences students the option to complete the January 2022 semester safely from their homes via virtual learning in the midst of this severe surge in COVID cases, as well as the travel chaos throughout airports.
