Faculty of Medicine, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka is in a crisis and the medical students are facing a possible break down of their medical education. All heads of departments and the dean has resigned from the administrative posts as a protest to abrupt cessation of the retaining allowance. This allowance was paid to retain the limited academic staff (around 1/3rd of required amount), to compensate the extreme workload and equalize the amount that can be earned if they were to serve in the ministry of health rather than joining the ministry of higher education. This situation has delayed the final exams and it will delay not only the medical education of Rajarata graduates, but also the appointments of all medical graduates of Sri Lanka.
