Why this petition matters

Started by Shubham Bhatnagar

In 1997 it was realized that there are students with excellence in the govt. schools of Delhi who can not afford to go to private schools and thus to provide for their excellence and cater needs of higher education Government schools  of special category were established. Thus, Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidhyalayas came to existence.

The RPVVs were set up with the objective of providing quality education to underprivileged children by raising the standards of education in government schools. The idea was to create a system in which students will get an opportunity to not only pursue academic excellence but also excel in sports and other activities.

RPVVs are the schools like Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, Sainik Schools or any other school having a distinct character.

Students are admitted through a test conducted at the entry level of class 6th and later 9th and 11th, depending upon the vacancy of seats in a school. the notions of test is to select students to cater their needs of higher potential.

Today in order to establish Schools of Specialized Excellence (SOSEs) The RPVVs are being converted, taking away the opportunity of access to higher potential teaching learning from all the excellent students of govt. schools who can NOT afford to go to private schools. also these SOSEs are supposed to be privatized to cause benefit to certain groups.

SOSEs are offering specializations which is good but those should be established in addition to RPVVs not by replacing them. There is no competition between RPVV and SOSEs so why shut RPVVs which are among the top government schools of the country.

Some of the disadvantages of establishing SOSEs are as followed :

  • Students with calibre (excellent skills) studying in  govt. schools will have no other institution to cater their high potential needs.
  • In higher grades, students will have to travel for studies as schools are to be set up for one stream per district.
  • Quality education for poor students will be replaced and Privatized.
  • Loss of one of the best govt. schools of the country.

RPVVs have emerged as one of the best schools of government for past several years. the schools compete with elite schools in terms of infrastructure, academics and sports and cater to the need of students who has talent and come from families who cant not afford to get into the elite schools. If there is a need to establish SOSEs why not replace the schools under govt. administration which are not able to facilitate learning for students.
