We the undersigned for this Petition respectfully request the Board of Supervisors of East Whiteland Township to reject and to otherwise not approve the Steep Slope Amendment to the Zoning Ordinance which is now under consideration by the Township and which would remove single-family detached dwellings as a permitted use in areas of steep slope. We urge the Board of Supervisors to protect and to not diminish our existing property rights.

 

Background Information:

The Board of Supervisors of East Whiteland Township is taking action that could dramatically impact the fundamental property rights of residents owning land with areas of steep slope (15% or greater). A study by the Planning Commission in the early 1990's indicated that there are approximately 350 residential properties throughout the Township that have areas of steep slope.

The Township Zoning Ordinance currently allows for single-family detached residential dwellings as a permitted use within areas of steep slope for the low density residential Zoning Districts. 

The Board of Supervisors is now considering a Steep Slope Amendment to the Zoning Ordinance, the purpose of which is to amend the Zoning Ordinance to remove single-family detached dwellings as a permitted use in areas of steep slope.

If your single-family detached home is within an area of steep slope, it would now be subjected to the extensive Nonconforming Use and Nonconforming Structure regulations of the Township Zoning Ordinance.

Your existing property rights to improve/enlarge your home or to restore/rebuild your home in the event of a loss would be significantly and adversely impacted. Also, your property rights in regard to any other parts of your property which have areas of steep slope could be adversely impacted as well.

What can impacted property owners and other concerned individuals do to stop this unnecessary taking of property rights? The following is recommended:

          1.  spread the word with your neighbors and friends (e.g., social media),

          2.  attend the Public Hearing (September 13, 2017 @ 7 p.m. @ the Township Building) and voice your objection , and

          3.  sign this on-line Petition
