Protect Lives in Keedysville
Why this petition matters

I moved to Keedysville, MD two years ago in the Coffman Farms area. I absolutely love this “modern Mayberry”! I love my neighbors, the Sharpsburg and Boonsboro communities we’re nestled between, and the historic elements of Antietam.
I’ve started this petition to request a small change that could save lives. Shortly after moving to this area, a fatal incident occurred at the intersection of Coffman Farms and Shepherdstown Pike (October 2020) — a motorcyclist struck by a truck. My heart broke for his family. As I was preparing for Thanksgiving that year, a dear young woman came to my door and asked if I knew anything about the incident. I walked her to the scene, prayed with her, and told her what little I knew. Since then, flowers have been set at the stop sign consistently, and I remember her grief every time I see them.
Routinely, as I pull out of Coffman Farms Road, I’ve witnessed—and experienced—multiple “near miss” incidents for two reasons:
1) Vehicles passing other vehicles on the berm at the intersection; and
2) Vehicles passing on the left while those at either side of Coffman are navigating a turn.
Both scenarios occur at extremely high speeds.
My proposal and request is that the heavy traffic intersection of Coffman Farms Road and Shepherdstown Pike be changed to a double line, no passing zone, and that the county or town would consider additional measures as appropriate to slow traffic. I hope to walk no more grieving widows across the street.
I and others in my community are in agreement for safety of our families and others this would be a significant, positive, and relatively simple change. Please sign if you agree and support this change!
