Protect Kids from Big Tobacco

TODAY, 3,500 KIDS WILL SMOKE THEIR FIRST CIGARETTE. TOMORROW, BIG TOBACCO WILL SPEND $36 MILLION ON MARKETING TO ADDICT EVEN MORE.

Now, it's time to finally regulate tobacco products and marketing to protect kids from Big Tobacco and prevent them from ever starting this deadly habit.

Letter to
U.S. Senate
As a volunteer for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, I am deeply concerned about tobacco products and their deadly toll they take on Americans nationwide. Tobacco products are one of the few products that are not regulated by the government. The U.S. House recently passed H.R. 1256,The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. This legislation will finally give the FDA the authority to regulate the sale and manufacture of tobacco products. Now it is time for the U.S. Senate to act.

Please support this legislation that would grant the FDA the authority to regulate the production and marketing of tobacco products.  FDA regulation of tobacco products will protect our children, improve public health and give sound information to consumers based on science. It would stop tobacco companies from marketing their products to children, require the disclosure of the harmful ingredients in cigarettes, ban misleading health claims, ban flavored cigarettes that are targeted to children, and provide for a more comprehensive warning label on tobacco packaging.

We cannot afford to wait any longer. Each day 3,500 new kids will try their first cigarette. Something must be done now to stop that. I urge you to support legislation in the U.S. Senate that will grant the FDA the authority to regulate tobacco. Please become a cosponsor of this legislation when it is  introduced and urge for quick passage. On behalf of our children, we can't wait.
