I call on you to tell Barack Obama and the Army Corps of Engineers to Immediately revoke all permits that allow Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) to cross any water ways, especially under “Nationwide permit 12”. The Army Corps of Engineers applied this fast track process with little environmental review and no meaningful public input. If completed the pipeline would allow 450,000 barrels of crude oil to pass beneath the Missouri river potentially threatening dozens of bodies of water including lake Oahe on the Missouri river. Because the Missouri river provides drinking water for 10 states and 28 tribes, potential leaks would threaten clean drinking water for millions of people and at the same time for diverse and rare fauna, including the Pallid Sturgeon, Which is federally listed as endangered on the U.S. Endangered Species Act, and the Paddelfish, which is currently listed as Vulnerable by the International Union for the conservation of Nature. The impact for construction or spills on the aquatic and terristial species on the Dakota access pipe line has not yet been adequatly assessed. Stop the Dakota Access Pipeline now and allow for a complete environmental assessment. Clean drinking water for millions of Americans and the lives of rare and endangered species is on the line!
