On March 25th, the remains of a dog left crated and locked in the basement of a rental home were found by a cleanup crew. While still waiting on results from a necropsy, it appears the dog died of dehydration or starvation. The previous tenant, Joseph Nelson of Rock Falls, IL is accused of moving out, leaving the dog to die a slow and agonizing death with no chance of getting out.
Animal abuse and neglect is all too common. What isn't common is the fact that we, as a community, have a chance for justice in this particular case. According to an article (linked below) from SaukValley.com, it is a rare occurrence to to gain enough evidence to prosecute for felony animal cruelty. In this case, there appears to be enough evidence for justice. Justice for Tank, who did nothing but wonder why no one came for him.
This is our community. It's up to us to make ourselves heard by letting the presiding judge know- this isn't the type of thing we want in our community.
If convicted, Joesph Nelson stands to receive up to a 6 year sentence. I am asking the judicial system and you as a community to come together and stand up for those animals who have no voice.
