School zoning changes would bus 65 local Jefferson students to Edison Elementary School.

Current school re-zoning proposals include busing 65 local (immediate vicinity - within walking distance) Jefferson students to Edison Elementary School.  This is not being done to reduce class sizes in Jefferson as 64 Jackson Elementary students would then be bused to Jefferson

The area affected by this proposed re-zoning plan consists of all households East of Cedar, between the Prairie Path as the Northern boundary, and the railroad tracks to the South.

One of the reasons many of us chose to live in this neighborhood was the proximity to Jefferson School and the expectation that this would be the local school our children to attend.  We currently have a quiet, safe, low traffic neighborhood that is ideal for raising a family and having kids walk to school.  There is no reason to bus local kids elsewhere when they can walk 4 or less blocks to school.

Additionally, being able to attend a school with your neighborhood peers helps foster a sense of community.

The proposed changes would negate many of these benefits for our children.
