The property law seems so outdated.

When a husband or wife decides to leave the family home and the children, they still receive 50% of the property settlement and only have to pay a miniscule amount towards the raising of their family. It ends up causing many, women in particular, to experience major hard ship and  be forced back into full time work with the added stress of raising children alone, while the partner who left can comfortably work full-time without concern.

The system needs to protect the welfare of caregiver and child.

In Australia, law states that property settlement is set 60/40 in favour of the caregiver. This is a law that New Zealand needs to adopt.
