Why this petition matters

Started by Katie St. Croix

The graduates have missed out on many of their highschool experiences already due to covid. Teenagers graduating this year have not had a single normal year of highschool. So why take away more from them? I strongly believe that we should at least have a dance, it’s something to bring the students together and with the tough times happening right now, after this is over, a night like this will be greatly needed to come back together as students.

The plan for the graduates attending wvh right now is to have a modified prom/cap and gown ceremony. They will start by sitting in their assigned seats and going onto the stage one by one in their caps and gowns to get their certificates (not diplomas). Then after the cap and gown part is done, there will be a slide show of the graduating class. This will be followed by the spoof awards. After this there will be time to take photos by the photo wall in the cafeteria. There will also be an opportunity at this time to get some finger foods and water (cookies, sandwiches). Then the students will leave the school and do their own thing for the rest of the night. This event is approximately 3 hours long. There will be no dance, no photographers, and no dj. Mandates/restrictions due to covid-19 in the province are set to be lifted on march 14th. A dance and/or other activities should not be affected by this. Majority of students already have their dresses/suits, and have spent a lot of money on them.

The students want a prom. The least we can do is have a dance.
