Increase debate and discussion about political beliefs, views, and current events in government and history classes

What does this mean?

The goal would be to encourage students to more actively engage in ongoing politics around the world and share their viewpoints with others, whether mutual opinion or not. The role of the professor would be to give more class time to focus on discussion or debate, as well as also encourage students to become more acquainted with current events.

Why?

I believe that if students are encouraged to read from multiple news sources and stay up to date with ongoing issues throughout the United States and the world, then they will be more willing to participate in politics and government, whether it be town, state, or federal level.

I also believe that it is important for students on all sides of political beliefs to be comfortable sharing their beliefs with others and be aware enough to discuss contemporary issues without ignorance. The worst kind of debate is one where both sides aimlessly defend their views without reason and without awareness.
