As of an internal communications email from Professor Susan Lea to all final year students at the University of Hull, graduation has been confirmed to be conducted via a virtual event.

Whilst this is greatly appreciated during the difficult circumstances, the University needs to either promise  and commit to a physical graduation ceremony when safe to do so, or alternatively firmly rule out the possibility, as opposed to tentatively suggesting that they may be able to conduct a physical ceremony at some point.

These students deserve transparency. The difficult times no doubt complicate when a ceremony can take place but the university must adopt a firm response to whether it is likely to happen, or not, to reduce further disappointment and upset.
