Fly the Rainbow Flag at UOW

We the staff and students of UoW seek your support in the final days of the Marriage Equality postal survey!

We urge you to sign this petition by 9am Wed 25th October 2017.

On October 3rd 2017 during a visit to UoW Wollongong Campus the Honourable Michael Kirby AC CMG directly implored Professor Paul Wellings, in his capacity as Vice Chancellor of UoW, to demonstrate support for our LGBT&I community and facilitate the flying of the Rainbow Flag on university campus flag poles. To date we are yet to hear from him on this issue.

We call upon the Vice Chancellor to now demonstrate genuine support for our LGBT&I staff and students by facilitating the flying of the Rainbow Flag during the final weeks of the ‘Marriage Law Postal Survey’.

We ask the Rainbow Flag be flown from all campus flag poles from the day following your receipt of our letter, and each day thereafter through to Thursday November 16th, being the day after the Australian Bureau of Statistics releases the postal survey results.

This will be more than a symbolic gesture by our university, it will enhance our reputation as an institution that celebrates diversity, that supports vulnerable staff and students in a time of need and a place of work that recognises our commitment to lead in our community, both as key local employer and a learning and research institution with over 30,000 domestic and international students.
