Successive Governments never considered the   plight of retired citizens of yesteryears   who are   now super senior citizens and  whose jobs were non pensionable. Though they are in the twilight years of their life they still require food , clothing, and have to meet other necessities of life in addition to ever increasing medical expenses. They have to live on interest income from investments of  their respective retirement benefits  This income also getting   eroded over the years due to interest rate  cuts  against the backdrop of raising prices of every commodity  one can  name.. These super senior citizens who retired in late 1980s or 1990s had very limited accumulations in their savings like Provident fund as their basic income was significantly lower compared to the basic income the currently in vogue in every rank. Also they   cannot go out  to work and earn because of age related problems. Providing   monitory help from state resources is also not a solution They have also lost in   gratuity  amount which  over the years  have increased from maximum  Rs 1 lac in  mid  nineties to Rs 20 lacs currently in vogue. An welfare state  must ensure proper social security of their retired citizens ,specially those who are now in twilight years of their life. Least government can ensure proper free medical care and protect their savings from rate cuts. Extra 0.50% interest for them is meaningless which are also eroded due to rate cuts.
