Private rental cap

With continued and inevitable cuts to welfare benefits more and more families are struggling to meet basic needs such as paying rent. Due to strick rules with many estate agents more and more families are also finding they can not afford to rent or move to suitable accommodation. Pressure is on our councils to reduce costs so the option of benefit payments going up will never happen. However our government could put in place a cap to stop private landlords charging such high rents. For example, one town in Kent a 3 bedroom council house will cost just under £400 per month in rent, but the same size property just round the corner from a private landlord will cost between £875-£900. I would like to see a rental cap put in place where private rents are in line with social housing and this in turn will help reduce homelessness.
