PLEASE HELP MY DAD.

My Father, Ben Goodall, has been sentenced to 3 years 8months having been involved in a fight with a father of a Serving police officer, which has resulted in a miscarriage of justice,  Two years ago my dad was having a meal in a restaurant with my grandad and a friend that he had been visiting for the past 25years, His friend was raucous and vocal about the police. Wrongly, in my opinion.

The man, who my father is convicted of assaulting, approached and, being the father of a police officer, took offence with what had been said. The situation degenerated quickly and resulted in a fight the result of which my father felt threatened and punched the victim and subsequently recieved a black eye and cuts above his eye.

I am in no way condoning my dads behavior. I think that it could have been resolved in so many other ways, but the speed at which he was arrested and the father of the police officer was not, that there were no charges brought against him, But convicting my dad of, GBH with intent raises some serious concerns in our minds.

Also, GBH with intent implies there was an intention to assault. There was none. This was a fight instigated by the person the CPS decided was the victim and his was given that status within the trial. That action by the CPS would, naturally, suggest to the jury that he is abrogated of any responsibility of what occurred that evening. I wonder whether the fact that he was the father of a police officer, and if so is a dangerous line to be taken.

I am not saying that my father should not be held to account for his actions. However I fail to see how this decision resulting in my dad being taken from me for 3 years and 8 months, is fair.

My dad needs help and he doesn’t deserve the punishment the CPS have swayed the jury to believe. Please help
