The Centinela Valley Union School District wants to change the purpose of the BLACK BOX from a classroom (utilized by ACA) to a theater, so staff and outside renters can use it. This means that ACA will now have to request to use the black box when it needs it for filming, workshops, etc. ACA will also be given a storage container to store its equipment. 

However,

The Academy of Cinematic Arts (ACA) wants FULL rights, access, and authority over the Black Box. Having to request to use the space when filming is NOT enough. The Black Box is the film pathway HOME. WITHOUT everyday access to the Black Box, the thrill of being in a film "class" is taken away. The Black Box is the ONLY designated space in the school where the film pathway has to make sets, store equipment (cameras, grips, lights, props, etc.), utilize an inbuilt sound/ light system, and have a green room. If the Academy of Cinematic Arts does not have FULL access to the black box, it will lose the core of its pathway. Students in this pathway NEED a Blackbox to keep the art of storytelling alive. A hands-on film class can NOT be confined to a classroom.

The Black Box is where the magic happens! 

The Black Box has given many students a home, haven, and a place to escape. When one walks into the black box, the feeling of being at school is stripped away. Your world is turned around as you are engulfed within a space that speaks of endless possibilities. Your mind is put in a liberating state as creativity fills you. This is why MANY students feel as though they are in their "happy place" or get a "glimpse into their future" when in the Black Box. The Black Box gives students hope, a feeling of belonging, and a purpose. Stripping away the heart of the Film Pathway (the black box) will do the MOST damage to the students who are learning because WE are the future of storytelling. 

HELP US SHOW THE CENTINELA VALLY UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT LAWNDALE HIGH SCHOOL WANTS/NEEDS FULL AUTHORITY OVER BLACK BOX BY SIGNING THIS PETITION.
