Prioritize South Africans in jobs and education
The Issue
Growing up in South Africa, I always believed in the promise of a brighter future—a future built on the opportunities provided by our own education and job markets. However, the reality today is heart-wrenching. Many South Africans are grappling with unemployment, unable to find jobs and secure educational opportunities due to the increasing presence of illegal foreigners who have taken these chances away from our people.
Our beloved country faces an unemployment rate of over 30%, with youth unemployment at an alarming 63%. These numbers aren't just statistics; they represent our families, our friends, and our communities left without hope or a chance of progress. Too often, I meet fellow South Africans with skills and qualifications who are unable to find work. At the same time, many see foreigners occupying positions meant for local citizens or filling seats in our educational institutions.
This is not a call against welcoming others—the South African spirit is inherently inclusive—but rather a call for fairness and putting our citizens' needs first. We must enforce existing immigration laws, ensure job and educational quotas are prioritized for South Africans, and support local initiatives to empower our unemployed. Each South African deserves the dignity of work and the promise of educational advancement.
It is imperative that the South African government takes decisive action to rectify this imbalance. We urge government officials to conduct thorough audits of workplaces and educational bodies to enforce compliance with national policies. Policies should be strengthened to favor South Africans, such as enforcing stricter penalties for businesses that employ undocumented foreigners and increasing funding for programs that equip South African citizens with the skills needed for available job opportunities.
