Bullying is currently a rampant epidemic at Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools.  One of the ways that bullies perpetuate their attacks is through social media and technology devices such as personal cell phones.  

Recently, I was made aware of students taking photos of my children and posting them on social media platforms.  Other forms of cyberbullying and harassment include students taking photos and spreading them between each other.  Taking photos on school property is against the school policy but without permission, is also a violation of the individual's privacy.

My suggestion is that unrestricted cell phone usage during normal school hours should be restricted.  I would advocate that kids can bring their devices to school if they need to communicate with parents however, there is no need for unrestricted usage of devices during class and at all other hours throughout the school day.  

Students have communicated that not only are devices used for harassment, but students are also using these devices during class and not paying attention to teachers.  Each student has a district-provided electronic device for a reason and therefore shouldn't require the usage of personal devices in a completely unrestricted manner.
