Students who have completed AP Calculus AB or Honors Precalculus should be able to take AP Calculus BC. Students should not be limited to only taking Math 150-151 offered at the local community college. AP credit which can be attained from AP Calculus BC is more universal compared to dual enrollment courses. Private Universities will often discredit the completion of a course taken at a community college as it may not be as rigorously demanding. Taking Math 150-151 may force students to remediate the course in college as it was not counted as credit. Scores attained by AP tests would be more applicable to earn credit nationwide. Dual enrollment credit limits students to choose universities in California, Arizona, and Nevada. If a student applies to a school out of those borders and wishes to transfer the credit. It is likely that the curriculum may not be universally accepted like attaining a 5 on an AP test. AP curricula are taught to a standard as there is a cumulative test that students take to earn credit.
