As many students and teachers know, tests (especially those in the math department) are timed. At first glance, this seems like an effective and reasonable policy. However, according to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, it does much more damage to students than meets the eye. In reality, timed tests are inaccurate representations of a student's scholastic abilities and are linked to life-long educational anxiety.

This problem is slowly being addressed internationally by eliminating timed tests, and opting for a testing environment where students can do their best and truly show what they know. We can do this too, by simply eliminating timed tests and adopting a student oriented testing strategy.

I started this petition because...
As much as it helps to rely purely on logic, facts, and statistics, I must detail the things I've experienced and witnessed in regards to this obsolete methodology. In my own academic life, timed tests have become a multi-discipline norm. Currently, they are virtually inescapable. This leads to fruitless test results that are no mirror to my actual comprehension, as well as, intense anxiety and disappointment in seeing my hard work crumble before my eyes. Similarly, I've observed several other students at multiple academic levels and the output is all the same. They are generally riddled with anxiety and lacking any form of self-validation, whether they realize it or not. These truths are unfortunate, but we must face their absoluteness.
