Class of 2022 started this petition to Principal Maestre

Why do we want admin to reconsider? The area around Colonial High School is known for being an underprivileged community. Many of the school's students are affected by this and the decisions taken by administration. Senior year is already considerably expensive for many of the parents of CHS students and the school should be considerate of this.

What's the point of this form? To create understanding and awareness from the school to maintain the original black and red hoods for graduation caps and gowns instead of red and black hoods.

Why? Many people in the student population can't afford brand new gowns for graduation, and instead planned to walk with hand-me-downs gowns from older siblings, cousins, or friends. However, due to the change of colors to red and black, a considerable portion of the Class of 2022 may be unable to wear this, which creates another expense during the most expensive year of high school. Combined with senior dues, as well as the expenses from applying to and preparing for college, creates another barrier for access.

On top of this, many of the students have already taken their graduation pictures in a black and red gown, which might cause more expenses for different pictures or a sense of inconsistency between pictures and graduation.

We ask you to consider how much COVID-19 has affected our seniors, it would be highly appreciated by our class if administration were to reconsider their decision, and instead opt to act in the best interest of our students. Keep the gowns black!- Class of 2022
