I have spent the majority of my schoolhood, like so many others, exceeding and excelling in mathematics. Unfortunately, McMichael does not provide ample opportunity for me, and all others like me, to venture further and expand our horizons. It is has been an innate quality for all humans for centuries to pursue knowledge. What better way than with a student governed math club?

Yes! A student governed math club. A tutoring/learning service which acts at a catalyst for higher education and should be provided to all students who wish to excel at mathematics. Leaders would be democratically elected, provided they meet the essential requirements. These include an A average in their class and having no more than 4 unexcused absences each semester. I believe promptness and attendance is essential to obtaining the best learning experience possible in high school. It is time for change at McMichael. Mediocrity has too long been applauded, and it is time for our student body to fight for greatness. We should no longer settle for okay. We are not a failing school. We are an A+ school and we will prove it! I believe the tutoring aspect of this program will allow substandard students to communicate easier with their peers and they will experience a love for knowledge like never before. The graduation rate will sky rocket, and an unprecedented amount of pupils will attend top tier colleges from McMichael. Allow our school to regain its glory with your decision Mr. Williams. It will be a great one!

I started this petition because...
I am Will Etringer, a freshman at McMichael. Even in my first few months, it has been made obvious that our school offers a diverse, though extremely limited, range of math classes. From calculus to geometry, you can widen your horizon so far in the classroom. However, your spectrum can only be as wide as your classmates during school hours. Some students dedicate time for independent research and studying, constantly learning and adapting new and innovative ideas. As one of these students, I know how hard it can be to study on your own and grasp new information by yourself. I strongly believe that this proposed math class will engage students, in unprecendented numbers. Innovation, excitement, and simply a love for learning will be reinstated in our school.
