Create a Pull-Out Program for 2015-2016 PACE Classes

During the 2014-2015 school year, many Cox Elementary school  accelerated learners had access to PACE Math and Language Arts as "class within a class" instruction. Our teachers made every effort to support the needs of our advanced learners functioning above grade level, while simultaneously addressing the needs of those trying to master the basics.

However, many parents are reporting that the "class within a class" model is not providing adequate opportunities for advanced learners, as outlined in the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted/Talented Students, 3.1E. Their findings are supported by current academic research that demonstrates  pull-out programs better meet the needs of accelerated learners.

To be Exemplary, we must support ALL of our learners, including accelerated learners, with learning opportunities that are appropriate to their abilities and demonstrated learning potential.

Furthermore, non-PACE students in the "class within a class" model can be  uncomfortable asking questions in a setting where PACE students always seem to know the answers or make statements about how easy the math problems are.

The purpose of this petition to request  and enable creation of PACE pull-out programs for math and language arts for the 2015-2016 school year.
