Chris Hood started this petition to Principal Burgess

According to Harvard Health, the avarge person should drink 4-6 cups of water a day. Unfortunately, as a student at Lawton Chiles Highschool, I feel as I am punished for doing so. In one of my classes, my teacher implemented a rule where we are not allowed to use the restroom but two times in the nine weeks quarter. They are using what she calls a bathroom pass system. I can name 3 teachers who use this, and I am sure there are many more. This bathroom pass would be used for getting water as well. Essentially, anything that involves leaving class. If the school cares about our wellbeing as much as they say they do, how come education is prioritized over basic human needs? They say to go before class, but some students have to spend the entire time we switch classes walking the campus in an effort to make it to class on time. Then when we get to class, we are told that if we do not make it to the bathroom and back on time, we are late. If this is truly to stop people from skipping class and smoking, why is it that students who have never been late, always do their work and are completely honest, still get the same rules? Why is it that some teachers literally offer extra credit for not using the bathroom? As a student just trying to be healthy and drink the water needed to live a healthy life, I feel that this is completely unfair. This petition is meant to demonstrate the effect this truly rule has on me, and many other student's lives. This is not even mentioning menstral cycles. What is a young girl supposed to do if she starts her period mid-class? What if she is out of these passes? Does this mean that the males are more likely to end up with the extra credit? Am I supposed to sit there in pain? Ending up using the bathroom all over myself? Are girls supposed to just bleed everywhere? Is education more important than a basic human need? I hope this gets addressed.
