Stop the addition projects at three Lake Ridge Elementary Schools.

In a 2016 decision, Prince William County School Board opted to add 13 classrooms to three Lake Ridge Elementary Schools: Lake Ridge Elementary, Springwoods Elementary, and Antietam Elementary in lieu of building a much needed additional elementary school in Lake Ridge. These additions still don't completely fix the over capacity status of the schools. Per the capital improvement plan, the county will still need to purchase land for $4,000,000-$6,000,000 in 2020 for a new Lake Ridge Elementary School scheduled to open in 2024. If the goal is to build a new school in less than four years that further proves the point that these additions will not be "enough". What they will accomplish is to disrupt students at all three elementary schools over the course of two school years. The construction will take away much needed space for recess and free play long term
In addition to not fixing the capacity issues, the 13 room additions add 40-60% more students to the already full Schools with no additional common space in cafeterias, gyms, or other public spaces. Is it the plan to add 40-60% more students and start lunch at 9am to accommodate them? Is the plan to add 40-60% more students for the librarian, music teacher, PE teacher, Principal, Assistant Principal etc to add to their already full workload.
I urge you to sign this petition if you feel the current plan for the additions are not the right direction for Lake Ridge long term and would like the school board to change the decision and build the new elementary school necessary for the community.
