Background: Students living in the Linton Crest neighborhood at the top of Rollins Ford Road will not only have to travel further to high school, they will also be separated from the rest of their Piney Branch classmates, as well as all other neighborhoods located off of Rollins Ford Road. In August of 2021 the 13th Prince William County high school will open in Gainesville, Virginia near the area of Progress Court off of Wellington Road. It will be built behind Jiffy Lube Live and Gainesville Middle School with a road eventually being built that connects to Limestone Drive. In both boundary plans being recommended to the school board, Linton Crest is zoned for Patriot High School. While Patriot is an excellent high school, it is located 4.3 miles from Linton Crest while the 13th high school is  approximately 2.6 miles. When a road is eventually built that connects University to Limestone Drive (behind Gainesville Middle School), Linton Crest will be approximately 1.7 miles from the 13th high school. Students will be traveling 2.6 miles further to Patriot. Prince William County Public Schools Regulation 264-2 states that one of the six factors to consider when creating a boundary plan is “4. Attempt to facilitate the efficient transport of students.” Sending students to a school that is twice the distance away from their home does not align with this. All neighborhoods that attend Piney Branch Elementary School are zoned for the 13th high school EXCEPT Linton Crest. Additionally, all neighborhoods along the Rollins Ford Road corridor that attend Gainesville Middle School with Linton Crest residents are also zoned for the 13th high school EXCEPT Linton Crest. This does not align with Regulation 264-2, “6. Attempt to improve the geographic progression of communities from elementary to middle and to high school.” In closing, the boundary plans should be revised to include Linton Crest with other Piney Branch neighborhoods.
