Audrey Rappaport started this petition to Prince George's County council

Hello Neighbors!

A few months ago I conducted a survey of residents asking about their experiences with the Nottinghill/Mt. Oak Intersection. I received 89 responses from people who used the intersection. 58% had at some point taken an alternate route to avoid the intersection, and 24% of respondents had had a close call at the intersection. Additionally, 63% of residents scored the visibility at the intersection as worse than average. There have also been 8 accidents at this intersection in the past 3 years.

It is clear that something must be done about this intersection. Many residents who took my survey suggested a three-way stop. However, the Maryland Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices only allows a three-way stop to be installed if certain conditions are met, such as minimum volumes and speeds of traffic on each street at the intersection. Another solution suggested by many was improving the visibility at the intersection through landscaping.

To improve the safety of this intersection we must get the County to conduct a traffic study of this intersection through the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program. This study will allow them to determine if the right conditions are present for a three-way stop and to find ways to improve the visibility.

For the greatest chance of my study request being taken seriously when I submit it to my county council-member (Todd M. Turner), I would like to show that many residents agree that we need to improve this intersection. If you have ever had a negative experience at the intersection of Nottinghill and Mt. Oak or have taken to avoiding it altogether, I encourage you to sign my petition and leave a short message explaining your support.

Thank you very much for your time!
