Australian system is unfortunately leaned against working parents with kids. While people are supported well by the welfare systems if they are not working, reason whatever may be, the same system treats working parents harshly who are the primary sponsor for the welfare system.

A high earner working mother does not get any support for the child care or towards maternity leave from the government. Financial stress is real for high earner individuals if they do not work. If mother chooses to work and child need to go to child care, the day childcare fee is in the range of 110-140$ per day. Because government contributes towards child care fee for low income earner, market gets aways with these exorbitant charges.

At times democracy is dictated by numbers not by what is right. I think a working mother should receive financial support towards childcare and maternity leave regardless of her income. All working mothers with successful careers deserve to have stress free motherhood as they contribute more than their fair share to community.

We want a system where everyone contributes and everyone is supported not which exploits one group to please the majority.
