And end to BBC anti-Brexit propaganda

On 23 June 2016 the British people took the momentous decision to leave the European Union (the so-called Brexit) but despite this, the BBC continues to act as the front for the propagation of pro-EU and anti-Brexit content.

We call upon the government to take cognisance of the fact that Article 6(1) of the Royal Charter under which the BBC operates says that “The Public Purposes of the BBC are as follows :”

“To provide impartial news and information to help people understand and engage with the world around them: the BBC should provide duly accurate and impartial news, current affairs and factual programming to build people’s understanding of all parts of the United Kingdom and of the wider world. Its content should be provided to the highest editorial standards. It should offer a range and depth of analysis and content not widely available from other United Kingdom news providers, using the highest calibre presenters and journalists, and championing freedom of expression, so that all audiences can engage fully with major local, regional, national, United Kingdom and global issues and participate in the democratic process, at all levels, as active and informed citizens.”

We also call upon the government to take cognisance of the fact that Article 3(1) of schedule 3 of the BBC Agreement with the government on “Regulatory obligations for the UK public services” says that:

“In providing the UK Public Broadcasting Services, the BBC must observe the standards set under section 319 of the Communications Act 2003 (Ofcom’s “Standards Code”). For the purposes of the requirements in the Standards Code which give effect to section 320 of that Act (special impartiality requirements), the UK Public Services which are radio services will be treated as national radio services.”

As the BBC is failing to live up to their agreement to be impartial, we insist that the government and Ofcom intervene immediately to prevent the Corporation from broadcasting and disseminating such blatantly one-sided information.
