EVENT INDUSTRY IN DIRE STRAITS!
The Malaysian Events Industry has been hit hard by the Covid19 crisis with cancellations, postponements and prohibition of all events including concerts, conventions, exhibitions, launches, roadshows, weddings, etc.
The entire industry has been brought to its knees and business owners are down to their last Ringgit trying to keep their companies afloat.
Many companies are already being forced to take drastic measures just to survive. Laying off staff members and asking some to take unpaid leaves is the last thing on every business owner’s mind but looking at the current situation, this is something that cannot be avoided.
Even before the Covid19 Lockdown was implemented in Match 2020, the event industry was already slowly feeling the heat since mid-January 2020 when companies decided to put a hold on all types of events due to the uncertainty that was happening globally.
However sad to say that always being highlighted by the media is only the MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Conventions & Events) Industry but many often forget about the other group of people who works tirelessly and diligently without sleep to ensure that when you arrive for your Gala Dinner, Weddings, Launches, Fashion Shows etc. the next day, the Stage is set up, Audio Visual system is running, Decorations is done, Musicians, Dancers and other Performers have done their rehearsals and are ready to entertain you while you sit back, relax and enjoy the show.
The matter of fact is that the SHOW CANNOT GO ON if the welfare and interest of the smaller event players are ignored. Based on an estimation there is easily more than 10,000 registered event companies in Malaysia and their employment figure run in the tens of thousands ranging from Event Managers, Event Coordinators, Event Producers, Sound Engineers, Lighting Programmer, Carpenters, Stage Hands, Technical Crew, Emcees, Disc Jockeys, Dancers, Performers, Musicians and the list goes on and on.
We thank the government for the help that has been given so far but we hope that assistant would be given to business owners as well. Based on our prediction it would take at least 6 months to 9 months or even 12 months for the event industry to slowly get back on its feet.
At this moment the show cannot go on. Please help us to keep the industry alive.
