Sunitha Krishnan started this petition to Shri Narendar Modi (Hon'ble Prime Minister of India) and

After fighting human trafficking for over 25 years and rescuing thousands of women and girls from commercial sexual exploitation I have witnessed the devastation it causes to the body, mind & soul of a human being.

The fact that there are organised groups of people who are waiting to predate on the most vulnerable and exploit them for their mercenary designs is something that I have experienced everyday in my life for the last two decades. These criminals are vultures on the look out for the most disadvantaged. Anybody who is financially weak or emotionally deficit is a potential target for them and they work as a chain from the source to the destination. In recent times even virtual platforms have been taken over by these predators.

Article 23 of Constitution of India prohibits Trafficking of Persons and there are legislations that deal with different forms of trafficking but till date we do not have a comprehensive legislation that looks at this problem as an organised crime or as a fastest growing criminal enterprise. Consequently trafficking of human beings in India goes unabated with impunity and millions of lives are destroyed everyday. Every life lost in trafficking is one too many!

The new draft Trafficking in Persons (Prevention, Care & Rehabilitation) Bill, 2021 is victim-centric, empowers the survivors and addresses the organised crime of human trafficking the way it deserves making it economically unviable.

Urging Mrs Smriti Z Irani our beloved Minister for Women & Child Welfare to place the Bill before the parliament in this monsoon session.

Appealing to Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi and all the esteemed parliamentarians to unanimously pass the Bill and pave the way for a 'human trafficking free India'.

In the 75th Year of Independence lets finally have a comprehensive legislation to end this modern day form of slavery-human trafficking.
