Sangeeta Choudhary started this petition to Prime Minister of India and

As the third phase of lockdown begins today(04.05.2020), sale of liquor is now allowed by the Centre with “certain conditions” in all zones.

Besides liquor, the Centre has allowed liquor and tobacco shops to resume operations in all districts as the new rules of Lockdown 3.0 stand applicable from May 4.

But already when poor and middle class people are suffering because of  unavailability of cash and food. Is this decision of opening of these shops applicable? It will motivate people to spend money on alcohol and create unnecessary trouble in their families and even in society due to the risk of spreading of virus.

I know that sales of Alcohol plays a very major role in economy of government.  Yet is it appropriate to raise the economy at the cost of happiness of families of those men who were not drinking alcohol for past 1 month due to lock down?

I have seen alcoholics sitting and spending time with their children during this lock down. Now opening of liquor shops will result in depression in their families. This is not about 1 family , opening of shops will result to unhappiness in all families.

This pandemic gave us a beautiful chance where we recognised ourselves that we can still be happy with our family without drinks

So , a humble request to not to open those liquor shops at this particular time of pandemic. If people can stay without alcohol for a month then they can also be without it for more than  2 months or for a year and even forever.
