Plastics, Man made growing disaster.
Plastics are one of the toxic elements that kills 10,000 lives a year directly and indirectly. It affects the environment a lot and causes lots of diseases. Government bans plastics but even then plastic bags are being used. We Indians don’t like to throw waste plastic bags in the garbage, we just dump them in the ground and that brings lots of harmfulness to the environment.
According to the Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, 15,000 tonnes of plastic waste is generated in India every day, out of which 9,000 tonnes is collected and processed, while 6,000 tonnes is not collected. Collecting the plastic bags for recycling is the most tedious process. Instead we can stop manufacturing the disaster.
Effects of plastics
- Eaten by lots of birds and animals and causes death
- Oceans are polluted by dumping waste
- Plastics thrown in the ground doesn’t allow the rain water to reach the water table.
- Plastic bottles contain a toxic element BPA that causes health effects such as infertility and disruptions in reproduction and sexual maturation.
- A recent report from World economic Forum says by 2050 there would be more plastic in oceans than fish!!
What were our ancestors doing before 100 years without plastics? Didn't they live their life? We are exploiting our right of being humans to hurt other species and our very own earth. We are harming our environment for our comfort and spoiling our good health.
Solution to save the environment
Government should be converting all the factories that manufactures plastic bags to organic bags. Organic bags are made of potato and costs a little higher than plastics. These bags when placed in a glass of water at normal temperature,it dissolves in a day. And when placed in a glass of boiling water, it dissolved in just 15 seconds! These bags take less than 180 days to biodegrade naturally once discarded. So users can throw them away without worrying about harming the environment. The bags are even edible and will cause no harm to animals if ingested.
If the plastic bags cost 2 rupees then organic bags will be costing only 3 rupees. Let us save the environment only with 1 rupee.
These bags are invented by Ashwath Hegde, a Mangalore-born but now Qatar-based NRI entrepreneur.
We can use cloth bags or paper bags in place of plastic bags and glass bottle in place of plastic bottles.
Lets kill plastic before it kills us!!
