Dhiren Bahl started this petition to Prime Minister of India Mr Modi

Abolition of Manual Scavenging in India

Complete Abolition of Manual Scavenging would have been expected to be perhaps the very first and foremost project of PM Modi right in May 2014, as one would understand of his “Idea of India”.

It is a bitter reflection on our country at large that this most demeaning, abhorrent and dehumanising practice remains in vogue.

I make this petition to highlight this acute human condition which needs to be abolished immediately.

The central ministry concerned can advise the states to publish ads soliciting contributions from corporates from their CSR (statutory Corporate Social Responsibility contribution of 2 per cent), institutions and individuals, giving the types and number of machines required in the cities and rural areas of their states, procure them and then hand them over to the civic authorities for use, instead of contributing money for their purchase by the civic authorities, which will take them time to procure (and may be at inflated costs).

Following abolition of manual scavenging, there will be a requirement of arranging alternate livelihoods for the erstwhile scavengers, and upliftment of their social conditions to live lives of dignity.

If you agree with this petition you may like to support it so that hopefully it goes to the notice of our PM, who will surely act on it post-haste.
