Imposing 12% GST on Sanitary Napkins is going to affect the most women, especially in rural area where they still struggle to afford one. Where as several associations are fighting to provide better health and hygiene to women in rural area, 12% GST on sanitary napkin will reverse the efforts.
As rightly said by groups protesting in Begluru, SEX IS A CHOICE, MENSTRUATION CYCLE is not. Where Condoms are tax free and Sanitary Napkins are Taxed, what is our Government thinking ?
Think about it, poor hygiene causes death of thousands of women in rural areas, using cloth or other means makes life more difficult and unhealthy during those five days.
Young girls drop out of schools or miss school during periods with fear of staining clothes, Govt is making sure that rural women/ girls become non functional during periods.
I hope men panel of deciding body on GST doesn't take it to their EGOS and reveres the decision by exempting the Sanitary Napkins from Taxes.
MENSTRUATION HYGIENE IS A NECESSITY NOT A LUXRY THAT WE WOMEN ENJOY.
