UP Government should take over City Montessori School in Lucknow for repeated infringement of Government Orders regarding education to underprivileged under RTE Act
Many private schools in Lucknow and surrounding areas are violating section 12(1)(c) of RTE which provides for 25% reservation to poor children in private schools.
City Montessori School (CMS) Lucknow is among many to openly defy the law. In the academic year 2015-16, even after a long drawn battle against this defiance, it only admitted 13 out 31 poor children residing in the 'neighborhood'. In the 2016-17 academic year it denied admission to 55 poor children.
Prompted by CMS's obstinacy, other private schools like Navyug Radiance School (to 25 children), City International School (to 12 children), two branches of St. Mary's Intermediate College (to 11 children) and Dr. Virendra Swaroop Public School (to 2 children) denied admission to poor children.
Navyug Radiance and Virendra Swaroop schools expelled two children each after admitting them. In all 105 children were denied admission in 2016-17 and it is a shame that the administration and court didn't intervene.
In the current academic year 2017-18, 296 admissions have been ordered by the local administration and of the 167 children who have approached CMS, all of them have been declared undeserving by it. The number of schools which are defiant about not admitting children under the Act is going up every year as a result of CMS's stance. It is entirely because of CMS that admissions to schools under section 12(1)(c) has become such an uphill task.
Therefore, in light of these facts, we request the Government of Uttar Pradesh to take over this and other private schools which are not only openly defying Government orders but also going against the spirit of the Constitution of India by snatching away the right to education given to every child of this nation.
