What if the heart medicine which your child needs for survival was suddenly not available in the market? And your doctor had told you that it is life saving for your child ?
Child Heart Foundation is a non profit organisation working for children with congenital heart diseases. We are involved in fundraising and advocacy for child health related issues. www.childheartfoundation.com www.facebook.com/childheartfoundation/
Children with heart disease are most likely to lead a normal life after heart treatment successfully. Pediatric Cardiologists & surgeons work hard to make this happen. Medicines are an essential part of treatment and result in improvement of a child with heart disease. Of these medicines, Furosemide (Lasix, Furoped, and other brand names) form the cornerstone of treatment.
Due to price control, the only syrup form of this medicine which used to cost Rs 107 per bottle has been reduced to Rs 9 per bottle. For this reason, the manufacturing of this medicine has been stopped.
Children with heart disease are left without any alternative. How can tablet (40mg) be broken and 2.5 mg given?
Rumas' (name changed) 1.98 Kg baby with heart problem needed Furoped, but it vanished from the market and they had to break a 40 mg tablet, and an error resulted in 10 times the dose being given to the child.
We request and appeal to all of you to sign the petition and support us in sharing the helplessness of these parents who are not able to procure this life saving medicine for their children.
PLEASE LET'S PETITION THE NATIONAL PHARMA PRICE CONTROL AUTHORITY (NPPA) THE FOLLOWING:
1. NOT TO CONSIDER PEDIATRIC MEDICINES IN THE SAME BRACKET AS ADULT
2. IF ONLY ONE FORMULATION IS THERE IN THE MARKET TO SIT AND DISCUSS WITH THE PHARMA ABOUT THE PRICING RATHER THAN UNILATERAL.
3. IMMEDIATELY TAKE MEASURES TO GET FUROPED SYRUP IN THE MARKET.
