Fix Minimum Support Price to be 50% of the Cost of Produce and Waive all Farm Loans

In its 2014 manifesto, the BJP, promised hiking MSP to 150% of input cost, as stipulated by the Swaminathan Commission (Business-standard). Months later, they completely reneged on their word and even submitted an affidavit in Supreme Court saying "Govt. would not be able to enhance the minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce to be 50% more than the input cost" (Source: timesofindia).

In India, a farmer commits suicide every 17 minutes. Between 1995 and 2015, almost 3,21,427 farmers have commited suicide. While big corporates proudly default on loans running into thousands of crores and still maintain their lavish life style, farmers are compelled to end their lives for loan amount as small as 5000 rupees.

Leave aside solving their genuine problems, Madhya Pradesh Govt. crossed all the limits of cruelty by firing at farmers protesting for their rights leading to killing of 5 farmers.

Farmers' Unions from all over the country have congregated under the AIKSCC (All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee) umbrella to demand fair prices (at least 150% of input cost) for all crops. Their other demand is complete freedom from all the debt.

The AIKSCC is leading a #KisanMuktiYatra from Mandsaur to Delhi, since the 6th of July. They started by commemorating the 6 farmers murdered in cold blood by the MP Gov, on the 6th of June, whose sacrifice inspired this federation of Kisan Unions and the Yatra itself. After passing through Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, the yatra will conclude in Jantar-mantar in Delhi on the 18th of July in a massive protest which will see farmers from all over the country participate.

At last, farmers deserve better treatment than the treatment which crony industrialist friends of the Govt. are receiving.

Jai Hind...
