Shankar Chatterjee started this petition to Prime Minister of India

Cricket, an elitist British colonial legacy, primarily played in nations colonised by the British has enjoyed a disproportionate coverage in the print and electronic media in India in the form of reporting, endorsements and thereby narrative building leading to an unfortunate and hyped popularity of Cricket in India to the detriment of Olympic sports in the minds of the impressionable younger generation thanks to a nexus between politicians, business and media houses. At present the investment in Cricket exceeds the combined investment in all Olympic sports put together. The unfortunate fallout has been that today sports culture in India is synomymous with cricket culture.

We the olympic sports lovers and sportspersons of India urge you to bring about a legislation with immediate effect to make it mandatory for the print or electronic media to give equal  and individualised coverage to any olympic sport in the form of space, time and endorsement value for olympic sports persons for each single coverage in Cricket in the print as well as the electronic media, and sponsorship by business subject to yearly audit and a harsh penalty for non compliance including a temporary ban for repeat offenders.
