In spite of the great danger, he didn’t hesitate.

In spite of imminent threat to life, he showed great presence of mind.

In spite of overwhelming adversity, he held his calm.

This defines Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

To commemorate his bravery, we request the Government of India to name the date of his release – 1st March as “Abhinandan Diwas”.

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman is an officer in the Indian Air Force and a MiG-21 Bison pilot was captured by the Pakistani Army post a combat by the LoC.

He has displayed great presence of mind by swallowing important documents, drowned others in a pond just before being captured by Pakistani Civilians and handed over to Pakistan Army. Even in further interrogations by the Pakistan Army, he has managed to gracefully ward off questions not divulging any detail. 

His bravery and integrity towards the nation is commendable. He defines the new India. He is a role model.

A true testimony for generations to come!
