Dear Sirs

Army,Navy and Airforce, recruit officers as short service commissioned officers. At the time of selection it was told, that "pensionary benefits are under consideration."

After their commissioning as officers, the type of duty performed by the regular officers and SSC officers are same. However, on release of the ssc officer, the privilege given is not equal to that of a regular officer. After a tenure of minimum 5 years or maximum 15 years these officers, of the age group 30 years to 40 years, are released without any sort of pension. As far as resettlement of these officers, nothing worthwhile is being done.  Very few of them  get  resettled themselves in public sector organisations including nationalised banks. But the pity is that they will not get their service rendered for the nation, counted in the new organisation, to fix their seniority for promotion  or pensionary benefits in the new organisation. Those who are self employed are not given any privilege like a regular officer.

Besides there is no pension given from the Defence Establishment.Their children do not get  fee concession in army public schools.ECHS benefits are not given to them.Recently many privileges are denied to them which other service officers are enjoying.Even a ordinary soldier(non commissioned) with 6 months of service is considered as ex serviceman and draws pension and all the privileges attached to his rank. Short Service officers are totally ignored ,even for pro rata pension or one rank one privilege.

An MP or MLA gets lifetime tax free pension whereas a released commissioned officer is not given pension or medical benefits.

The nation should show their gratitude to the released Short Service Officers who sacrificed their prime years of life to the Armed Forces.A token pension can be decided by the government and can be given to them so that they are honoured and live a decent life like any other officer of the Forces.

It is appealed that equal status  and privilege may please be extended for a released short service commissioned officers at par with regular officers and pro rata pension  to be accorded to them at the earliest.
