Thousands of ordinary Australians are doing the extraordinary as part of the CFA, tirelessly working to fight the horrendous bush fired that have gripped the nation.
Their heroic efforts have taken personal priority over everything else - be that family time, Christmas holidays, work, rest and every other normal life priorities.
Some sadly have made the ultimate sacrifice of their life.
Whilst the Australian of the year award is traditionally bestowed upon an individual, these are not ordinary times. Such selfless acts, fighting devastating fires on a never seen before scale deserve the formal recognition of the nation in the 2020 Australian of the Year award.
