It is time the country stands up, in unison, to oppose the plans of the Government of India to pour tax payer's money into bottomless pits called "government undertakings".

Several public sector undertakings are loss making for several decades. All past efforts in turning them around have failed. Their business model has lost their relevance in the face of competition from private sector players.

We all know the Air India story and the billions that has already been poured into its bottomless pit. Now the government wants to repeat the same approach with BSNL and MTNL and the initial plan is to pump in Rs. 74,000 crores.

India's spending on healthcare and education as a percentage of GDP is a joke and is falling steadily, the reason being lack of resources. But somehow we always find money to waste on such undertakings.

Just to save the livelihood of a few thousand employees of these government companies, for how long we are going to deprive the country of spending on more crying needs? Of course, our sympathies are with these employees but pouring crores from time to time is not the answer.

Let us make the voice of citizens heard by the Prime Minister. If Mr. Modi cannot bite the bullet, no one can.
