For the government to truly fight black money and ensure complete transparency in political funding, the ambit of the Right to Information Act must be expanded to include political parties.
Recent developments to fight against black money by Govt of India are decisions like high denomination currency notes ban, linking aadhar to pan card, Benami transaction prohibition (amendment) act, GST. In budget speech, Arun Jaitley had proposed electoral bonds to raise money for parties and capped anonymous cash donations to ₹2000. But these changes are not enough.
In present times we are seeing increasing number of MP's who are facing criminal charges, millionaires becoming MP's and every time the elected MP's or MLA's assets are multiplying at rocket speed which demands transparency
The first step on which democracy runs is transparency. Political parties form the government, they derive power from people, they work for people, so they must be accountable to people. Active and prolonged engagement of citizens will keep democracy alive.
We have to close all ways and routes of corruption and black money generation. Without transparency in political funding, we don't achieve the desired result.
Information is the antidote to corruption.
A democracy requires accountability, and accountability requires transparency-Obama
