Make knowingly lying or misleading the electorate a criminal offence.

The 2016 E.U referendum was one of the most dishonest campaigns, with Vote Leave intentionally breaking electoral laws related to funding. Vote Leave also intentionally misled the public (£350m a week to NHS / Turkish immigration) which were both huge factors in the result of the referendum. 

The 2019 election was even worse!

The conservatives have: 

*changed their Twitter account to "FactcheckUK" and used it to post lies about opposition parties*

*created a fake manifesto website for an opposition party on the day they launched theirs, in a direct attempt to mislead voters*

*carried out a coordinated smear campaign against the mother of a very sick 4 year old boy to try and detract from the abhorrent conditions within the NHS hospital*

*wrongly claimed an aide was "punched" by a labour activist when this was clearly not the case.*

*Been issued a cease and desist letter from the BBCs legal team regarding the doctoring of footage to give the impression of an official BBC news broadcast.*

*been warned by social media outlets to stop posting intentionally misleading adverts*

*have been shown to be intentionally misleading voters in 88% of adverts posted to social media.

As a direct result of the lies and deceit of the past 4 years, 2 results that would have been entirely different had there been some legal consequences for the lies have stood.

THIS HAS TO STOP.
