"Ma te ture, te ture anō e aki" Te Kooti Arikirangi Te Turuki in 1893

This Petition completely opposes aspects of the Public Health Response Bill 2020. In particular s 20 (3) below:

s 20 (3) "A constable may enter a private dwellinghouse or marae without warrant only if they have reasonable grounds to believe that people have gathered there in contravention of a section 11 order and entry is necessary for the purpose of giving a direction under section 21."

Kelvis Davis has announced this morning that the word 'marae' has been removed. Removal of 'marae' does not change these powers. Technically police will still have the powers to enter marae, houses etc under s20(1). I'm concerned they have this explicit power in response, entering houses, dwellings (which include marae) without a warrant. Need this section removed immediately.

Our concern is that the removal of 'marae' under s20(3) actually gives wider powers of warrantless entry to marae under s20(1).

Colonisation is our greatest pandemic and this Bill smacks of racist cultural arrogance to undermine our right to culture and Tikanga Maori protected by Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

This is modern day denial of Maori ability to exercise our customs in our accordance with our values and must be opposed.

We must maintain our own ability to regulate. control, manage and determine our own cultural institutions and therefore implore the Labour Party to amend the Bill immediately.
